We are currently looking for a Welder Fabricator to join our fast-paced Engineering department based at London Gateway Port in Stanford le Hope. In this role, you will identify, develop, and produce welding solutions for various mechanical issues related to site equipment and works. Additionally, you will verify the integrity of metallic components and examine, test, repair, and report on ferrous and non-ferrous welds.
The role involves working a shift pattern of 12-hour days.
About the role:
- Assess, design, and fabricate solutions for mechanical problems involving site equipment and works.
- Inspect, test, repair, and report on ferrous and non-ferrous welds.
- Use non-destructive testing methods to verify metallic component integrity.
- Maintain accurate data in the asset management system throughout the asset\’s lifecycle.
- Support development of method statements and risk assessments for workshop, mobile equipment, and cranes activities.
- Maintain high equipment availability, reliability, and safety in line with LG Asset Management strategy.
- Coach apprentices and technicians in fabrication methods, including welding, gas cutting, grinding, and machining.
- Assist the Engineering Team with routine maintenance and breakdowns as needed.
- Perform repair and maintenance activities following LG engineering processes, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Contribute to the implementation of H&S policies and procedures.
- Ensure method statements and risk assessments cover all repair and maintenance activities.
What you will bring:
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- City & Guild / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in heavy steel fabrication and welding.
- ESSENTIAL: Coded to BS EN ISO 9606-1 111(MMA) structural positional welding.
- Minimum 3 years\’ experience in fabrication and repair welding, with a relevant apprenticeship preferred.
- Experience working on port or heavy machinery environments.
- Competent in various NDT methods (desirable).
- Proficient with machine tools.
- Skilled in oxy/gas cutting and gas heating.
- Experience with plasma cutting.
- Previous work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Experience with MAG and TIG welding techniques.
