Here at P&O we are seeking a Health, Safety, Security, Environment (HSSE) Irish Seas Route Manager & Safety Training Officer to join our HSSE team here in the Larne on a permanent basis.
This is an opportunity to work as part of the HSSE team helping to ensure that the highest standards of health & safety, security, and environmental management are maintained across our ports and vessels, supporting operational teams, and delivering high-quality safety training.
The successful candidate will have a proven record in HSSE management in high-risk environments, delivering effective HSSE training programs, and managing regulatory compliance. The role is based across the Irish Seas with extensive travel to ports and vessels.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Work closely with local management to monitor and manage HSSE activities and risks, driving an improved health & safety culture.
- Ensure assurance protocols are implemented and maintained for employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate engaging HSSE training programs aligned with legislation and company policies.
- Manage compliance with security regulations including Flag, Port State, Host States, and cyber security per ISM code.
- Support the delivery and continuous improvement of HSSE systems and operational strategies.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have 3-5 years’ experience in an HSSE management role within ports, marine, or logistics environments.
- Be knowledgeable in incident investigation techniques such as ICAM.
- Have proven experience delivering HSSE training in high-risk environments.
- Possess strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including Health & Safety at Work Act, MARPOL, and ISPS Code.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills to engage diverse audiences.
- Teaching qualifications such as PTTLS or AET Level 3 or equivalent.
