Job Overview
Fully accountable for coaching, mentoring and leading a team of DC operatives, enabling them to achieve KPIs and commercial targets within a safe culture‑led working environment.
Work Schedule
- Friday 1:00pm to 9:00pm
- Saturday & Sunday 9am to 9:00pm
- Monday 1:00pm to 9:00pm
Responsibilities
- Regularly review own performance and maintain a personal development plan, including a compulsory Academy Level 3 qualification, that is alive and represents your behaviours and areas of technical performance that need focus and improvement.
- Manage all Employee Relations issues fairly in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures, engaging with Union when applicable and holding disciplinary hearings when necessary.
- Drive the implementation and delivery of new initiatives through Six Sigma to achieve the objectives set within the DC. All Team Managers require a minimum Yellow Belt qualification.
- Complete all Health and Safety training, checks and record‑keeping on time and accurately, to ensure compliance with Company Policies and relevant legislation.
- Demonstrate leadership experience including managing direct and indirect reports, coaching, giving feedback and developing team members.
- Communicate effectively with other managers within the DC and develop a network of contacts outside Westway to further understanding of end‑to‑end business processes.
- Deputise for the Shift Manager when requested or cover other shifts as required.
- Ensure all Team Managers are trained, take personal ownership and are rotated throughout the year to work in all areas of the DC (minimum twice yearly).
- Accurately manage and monitor daily KPIs and staffing levels for improvement.
- Maintain a highly motivated, engaged and productive team, using effective coaching and mentoring tools and skills.
- Provide regular one‑to‑one meetings with team members, documenting development plans that highlight future aspirations.
- Maintain effective communication within the team, keeping everyone well informed.
- Ensure a safe working environment is maintained and continually reviewed.
- Ensure all DC operatives understand and adhere to Health and Safety Compliance Policies and Procedures and are competent in carrying out incident investigations.
- Integrate new starters and agency colleagues successfully.
- Take full accountability for management, tracking and adherence of Attendance and Annual Leave for the team, ensuring correct data entry and accurate payments.
- Handle sickness absences appropriately in collaboration with HR and Occupational Health.
- Support the Shift Manager to ensure the operation and teams deliver as one unit.
- Role model and demonstrate leadership behaviours in all activities, living the Clarks values, purpose and operating model.
Qualifications
- Level 3 Apprenticeship
- IOSH trained or equivalent
- Fully competent with Health & Safety processes and procedures
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt
- Managing and leading a team of 20+ people
- DC processes and procedures
- Managing & improving performance
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Managing budgets, training and recruitment
- Good numeracy and literary skills
- Previous experience of managing a highly engaged, motivated and productive team
- Significant leadership experience including coaching and giving feedback
- Worked within a Unionised environment
- Knowledge and experience in using the HighJump system
- IT proficient and able to use a range of systems, including Excel and Microsoft packages
