At Dowty (a GE Aerospace company), we design, manufacture and support cutting edge aerospace systems that power the future of flight. The NPI Manufacturing Coordinator is the driving force between Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and Operations during the development of new products. This hands-on leadership role keeps production articles moving through the shop floor, unblocks issues before they become delays, and pulls teams together to deliver safe, high quality hardware on time. You will thrive here if you have a solutions driven mindset, strong technical grounding, and the confidence to anticipate challenges, take initiative and implement sustainable improvements that stick.

Production management

  • Oversee production articles on the shop floor, ensuring timely progress and delivery through the manufacturing process.
  • Anticipate and resolve bottlenecks to maintain flow and meet delivery targets.

Sustaining & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, maintain and drive a lessons‑learned register to prevent recurring issues and accelerate product creation.
  • Lead structured problem‑solving to optimise processes and improve throughput, yield and cycle time, while responding quickly to immediate challenges.

Design for manufacturability

  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturing considerations are built into product development from the start.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment layouts, process design and product flow to maximise efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Define the sequence of workforce operations for manufacturing low‑volume prototype parts.
  • Create robust work instructions that document a safety‑first, ergonomically sound, tried‑and‑tested process.

Leadership & collaboration

  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership to the operations team, mentoring associates and fostering collaboration across Operations, EHS, Planning and Quality.
  • Represent ME and the NPI team in cross‑functional forums, driving alignment and solutions to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) targets.

Compliance & documentation

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. CAA, EASA, FAA) and internal procedures.
  • Act decisively to maintain a safe and compliant work area where the health and safety of manufacturing teams is paramount.
  • Define equipment lists, training requirements and safety documentation for new product introductions.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: Minimum Level 3 qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience: Proven expertise in manufacturing engineering, production management or a similar role.
  • Capability: Demonstrated ability to optimise processes for throughput, quality and availability during design and commissioning phases.
  • Mindset: Self‑starter who can find solutions to new and novel problems and work towards a defined outcome without detailed instructions.

Desired Skills

  • NPI & planning: Knowledge of New Product Introduction (NPI) processes and/or project planning.
  • Problem solving: Knowledge of problem‑solving methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, Red X) and APQP requirements.
  • Manufacturing: Experience with composite (CFRP/RTM) and/or high‑tolerance machined parts manufacturing.
  • Rapid prototyping: Knowledge of 3D printing / rapid prototyping tools and part production.
  • Regulation: Experience in highly regulated industries (aviation preferred).
  • Industrial engineering: Expertise in line balancing to optimise operator efficiency and maximise production output.
