We are currently seeking a reliable, organised and proactive Yard / Plant Manager to join our growing operation, based at our office and yard in West Thurrock, Essex. This is a key role within the business, responsible for overseeing yard operations, fleet and plant coordination, transport logistics and compliance. Working closely with the Transport Manager and operational teams, you will ensure vehicles, machinery and equipment are maintained, available and delivered safely, efficiently and in line with all regulatory requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual with a strong background in transport operations, fleet compliance, plant management and site logistics, looking to take ownership of a busy and varied role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain all fleet vehicle documentation, ensuring compliance records are accurate and up to date
  • Work closely with the Transport Manager to ensure all Operator Licence requirements and duties are met
  • Ensure all HGVs, vans and plant are roadworthy, inspected and maintained to legal and company standards
  • Plan and coordinate daily lorry routes, transport schedules, deliveries and collections
  • Arrange deliveries and collections for drivers and operational sites
  • Manage orders and deliveries for consumables and PPE
  • Coordinate all plant hire and off‑hire requirements, including transport and collections
  • Organise new site setups, ensuring all required equipment and materials are delivered on time
  • Arrange machinery requirements and transport logistics for operational sites
  • Ensure machinery and attachments are prepared and available when required
  • Carry out pre‑delivery inspections in conjunction with fitters
  • Monitor servicing schedules, annual inspections and certifications for fleet vehicles and plant
  • Coordinate repairs, servicing and breakdown response with internal teams and manufacturer fitters
  • Source parts for vehicles and machinery using technical drawings, ensuring cost‑effective purchasing
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised yard environment
  • Conduct stocktaking of consumables and parts, maintaining accurate records
  • Manage NRMM registrations for Inner London sites prior to inspections
  • Load and unload vehicles for site deliveries and returns
  • Deliver toolbox talks and actively promote safe working practices across yard and transport operations

Requirements

  • Previous experience in transport, fleet, plant or logistics operations
  • Good working knowledge of Operator Licence compliance and fleet maintenance procedures
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Confident communicator, able to liaise with drivers, suppliers and operational teams
  • Experience coordinating deliveries, collections and machinery logistics
  • Understanding of machinery servicing, inspections and certification requirements
  • Forklift or loading experience (advantageous)
  • Proactive approach to health, safety and compliance
