About the team
The Downing Energy and Infrastructure (E&I) Data Team is a team of three who own, control and report on the data for the full Energy and Infrastructure team. This will involve monitoring renewable energy systems ensuring they are operating and working efficiently, collecting the data from these systems monthly to feed into reporting for the wider E&I Team and ensuring the IT systems used by the E&I Team are up to date and fit for use. The Data team aims to improve process through data automation, extracting insights from data to add value and lead projects to aid the wider team.
Role and responsibilities
- Monitoring assets across Solar, Wind, Hydro and Storage technologies within the renewable energy portfolio.
- Extraction of data from monitoring systems and comparison between data sets, to ensure accurate and timely technical KPI’s are produced each month.
- Using this data to find actionable insights across the technologies and the commercial teams.
- Production of useful and insightful regular reporting, with the intention that it drives priorities and therefore optimisation across the portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring sites on a regular basis via Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to ensure sites are performing in line with expectations.
- Independently conducting data analysis of assets and coordinating with external contractors.
- Creating and presenting data to the wider team using visualisation tools such as Power BI.
- Production of complete, accurate and timely technical performance data.
- Supporting automation and efficiency improvement projects for internal processes.
- Support in project management for a variety of tasks spanning across the full Downing Energy and Infrastructure team.
- Support in analysis around data risk and compliance across a varied portfolio that includes different data streams.
- To act as an ambassador for Downing’s values, and to always behave in a respectful and professional manner.
Education, experience and skills
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain analysis to non-technical team members.
- Proficiency in Excel is required.
- Experience working with a visualisation tool, ideally Power BI/Tableau (preferred but not required).
- Experience in coding (ideally python) is preferred.

Hybrid working
Downing operates a hybrid working policy whereby employees are expected to work from the office for a minimum of 3 days each week. If specific days are required in the office, this will be communicated during the interview process.
