Downey Osborne is working with a well-established organisation to recruit a Payroll Clerk on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is central to the finance team, supporting accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining payroll records, and assisting with reporting, compliance, and employee queries.
About You
- 13 years experience in payroll or finance administration
- Confident using payroll systems, Sage, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
- Good understanding of payroll principles, wage laws, and taxation
- Able to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
About Your Role
- Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on time
- Collect, review, and verify employee timesheets and payroll data
- Maintain payroll records, employee files, and related documentation
- Prepare payroll summaries, journal entries, and cost reports for accounting
- Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Support payroll on-boarding for new starters, including tax forms and exemptions
- Update absence, holiday leave, and hours tracking
- Communicate payroll deadlines and updates to employees
- Assist with internal and external payroll audits
- Support year-end payroll activities including P60 preparation
- Contribute to improvements in payroll processes and documentation
- Assist with reporting or special payroll-related projects
