At Downend Health Group, we are looking for a part-time Phlebotomist (22 working hours per week) to perform health care for patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will perform venepuncture to patients registered at Christchurch Surgery and Willow Surgery.

Job responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
  • Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures
  • Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
  • Accurate labelling of samples
  • Checking patient identification against electronic records and blood sampling request form before any sample taken
  • Recording collection of blood sample in patient electronic records in accordance with practice procedure
  • Correct disposal of Sharps
  • Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the correct laboratories in a timely fashion
  • Ensuring that any queries are discussed with Practice Nurse/Scheduled Care Lead or GP
  • Notifying GP/Practice Nurse of any significant patient issues
  • Performing any other tasks within the skills of the post holder as agreed with the Nursing Team Supervisor
  • Ensuring up to date with any mandatory training required of the post
