Responsibilities

  • Create data visualizations and infographics by collaborating with reporters and editors to produce story‑led visuals based on data, maps, and insights.
  • Perform data analysis, sourcing and working comfortably with a wide range of data sets across energy and commodities.
  • Translate complex data into engaging and compelling visual stories and interactive pieces.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, writers, other reporters, and the homepage team to bring visual ideas to life for prominent stories.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience of data journalism working in a newsroom.
  • A strong portfolio showing visually and editorially compelling graphics, interactives, and data visualizations.
  • Technical skills in JavaScript, HTML/CSS, D3.js, Adobe Illustrator, and a framework such as Svelte, React, or Vue.
  • Information and data design expertise.
  • Web and UX design skills.
  • Statistical programming experience with tools such as R or Python/pandas.
  • Experience with GIS software such as QGIS.
  • Comfortable working in Excel/Google Sheets and a solid working knowledge of HTML/CSS.
  • Strong data journalism skills, including the ability to search for and identify new data sets and trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with high organization and attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of energy and commodities is an advantage.
