Position Overview: Based in London or New York and reporting to the EVP, GM of Energy, this SVP will have full editorial and strategic oversight for developing a single, coherent, and market-leading news offering for Energy and commodities. This is an entrepreneurial leadership role that is critical to the business, with responsibility for defining and executing a holistic content strategy that drives thought leadership, lead generation, and successful external events. This leader is responsible for building new content initiatives, fostering strong cross-functional partnerships, and integrating innovative content formats and delivery mechanisms to meet evolving business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Editorial Strategy & Execution: Develop and deliver a comprehensive news and content strategy for Energy and commodities, ensuring editorial excellence, market relevance, and alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Uphold Editorial Integrity: Implement and maintain the highest editorial ethical standards, worthy of a news organization that is part of the world-renowned Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal family.
  • Thought Leadership & Lead Generation: Define and implement the content strategy for high-impact thought leadership, major conferences, and marketing campaigns to generate qualified leads and elevate the Dow Jones brand in the Energy and commodities space.
  • Entrepreneurial Growth: Lead the development and launch of new, innovative content formats and products, demonstrating an entrepreneurial mentality to build new audiences and revenue opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work collaboratively across Editorial, Sales, Product, and Marketing teams to ensure content strategy is integrated, aligned with commercial goals, and delivered seamlessly across all channels.
  • Content Innovation: Drive the creative use of data visualization, multimedia, and technology to enhance storytelling, product value, and audience engagement.
  • Operational Efficiency: Drive efficiency across editorial workflows and adopt cutting-edge technology to optimize resource utilization and elevate storytelling impact.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and motivate a world-class editorial and content creation team capable of high performance and continuous innovation.
  • External Representation: Serve as a key spokesperson for the business, representing the organization at internal and external industry events.
  • Accountability: Track content performance against engagement and lead-generation targets, adjusting strategy and focus as needed to deliver on commitments.

  • Managing for Results: Proven track record as a decisive, action-oriented leader who has successfully translated a bold editorial or content strategy into measurable execution plans and superior audience impact. S/he will be known for establishing a clear vision that inspires direction and focus.
  • Leading Teams: Demonstrated experience in building, developing, and retaining high-performing editorial or content teams. This leader fosters a culture of accountability and takes a thoughtful approach to addressing performance challenges to support overall team effectiveness.
  • Building Relationships and Leading Through Influence: Experience working collaboratively across functions to evaluate options, gather input, and foster alignment on business priorities. Approachable and open-minded, they will be recognized for cultivating trusted relationships with business leaders, peers, and team members, as well as inspiring confidence and creating a sense of shared purpose.

You Have

  • Advanced editorial, content strategy, or newsroom leadership experience in Energy and commodities or other B2B information services organization.
  • A proven ability to build and launch new products or content initiatives, demonstrating an entrepreneurial mentality.
  • Significant experience (20+ years) in journalism, editorial management, or content strategy, preferably in a global environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing content specifically for lead generation, thought leadership, and high-profile industry events.
  • Exceptional creativity and expertise in content presentation and data visualization.
  • A strong grasp of the impact of AI, technology, and a multitude of delivery mechanisms on the information services industry.
  • Proven communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills for working across diverse functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of the business information and Energy/Commodities markets.
  • A university degree or relevant work experience.
