We are seeking an experienced Data Visualization and Graphics Editor/Designer to creatively guide and develop data stories and graphics across all platforms. As our publications expand their visual storytelling capabilities, this role will be integral in establishing how we present large-format, data-driven stories to our audience. The ideal candidate is a data-visualization expert who can work closely with a team of journalists to create compelling visual content and data-led journalism.
You Will:
- Create data-visualizations and infographics: Work closely with reporters and editors to create story-led visuals based on data, maps and insights.
- Data Analysis: Source and work comfortably with a wide range of data sets across energy and commodities.
- Storytelling: Turn complex data into engaging and compelling visual stories and interactives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with editors, writers, other reporters, and the homepage team to bring visual ideas to life for prominent stories. We strongly value teamwork, so the ability to collaborate easily with other newsroom members is essential.
You Have:
- Experience: Demonstrable experience of data journalism working in a newsroom.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating visually and editorially compelling graphics, interactives and data-visualizations.
- Technical Skills: JavaScript, HTML/CSS, D3.js, Adobe Illustrator, Svelte (or another similar framework like React, Vue etc). Information data design Web and UX design skills Statistical programming tool such as R or Python/pandas QGIS (or other GIS software Comfort working in Excel/Google Sheets and a working knowledge of HTML/CSS. Some data journalism skills and a capability to search and identify new data sets and trends.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with being highly organized and detail-oriented. Able to work with the head of news and a bench of price reporters to bring large datasets to life in a visual format. Basic knowledge of energy and commodities an advantage.
