Do you have a passion for protecting and supporting young people in education? Dovetail and Slate, an employment business working in partnership with over 200 colleges across the UK, is offering an exciting opportunity for individuals to take on the vital role of Safeguarding Officer within a Further Education environment. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in safeguarding, child protection, or student welfare, who are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of learners.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a first point of contact for safeguarding concerns raised by staff, students, or external agencies.
  • Ensure prompt and effective responses to safeguarding issues, in line with college policies and statutory guidance.
  • Liaise with external partners including social services, the police, and local safeguarding boards.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of safeguarding incidents and interventions.
  • Deliver safeguarding training and awareness sessions to staff and students.
  • Promote a culture of safety, equality, and inclusion throughout the college.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Safeguarding, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or a related field.
  • Up-to-date safeguarding training (e.g., DSL, Child Protection) or willingness to complete upon appointment.
  • Proven experience working in a safeguarding or student welfare role.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal sensitively with complex situations.
