Opportunity

Are you an experienced painter and decorator looking to step off the scaffolding, escape the seasonal weather, and pass your trade skills on to the next generation? Or are you a creative construction lecturer seeking a fresh, highly rewarding teaching environment? We are recruiting for a creative Painting & Decorating Lecturer to join a progressive education team working within a secure adult environment in Kent. This role offers a unique opportunity to teach the fundamentals of the trade to small, focused groups of around 8 learners per session. Many of these individuals have had negative past experiences with mainstream education; your workshop will be a space where they can build practical trade skills, grow their confidence, and gain the tangible qualifications needed to build a stable career path upon release.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Practical Instruction: Deliver engaging and imaginative Painting & Decorating classes, teaching fundamental trade techniques and the proper use of professional tools.
  • Adaptive Teaching: Design and adapt your lessons to support a diverse range of learning abilities, ensuring complex techniques are broken down into accessible, practical steps.
  • Workshop Management: Maintain a structured, safe, and positive workshop environment, fostering excellent professional habits and health and safety compliance among learners.
  • Softer Skills Development: Look beyond the curriculum to help learners build vital employability traits, such as punctuality, teamwork, resilience, and problem‑solving.

What We Are Looking For

  • Trade Expertise: Strong, hands‑on experience within the painting and decorating industry, with an excellent understanding of trade fundamentals.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to connect with, motivate, and inspire individuals from diverse and complex backgrounds.
  • Adaptability: A patient, innovative approach to classroom delivery, with the ability to manage small workshop groups (sessions are typically 2.5 hours long).
  • Qualifications: A relevant trade qualification is essential. A teaching qualification or previous instructional experience is highly desirable, though a passion for mentoring and a willingness to learn are equally valued.

What Is On Offer

  • This position provides a stable, highly secure career path with an excellent work‑life balance.
  • Alongside a competitive salary of up to £39,669, the benefits package includes:
  • Generous Leave: 38 days of annual leave (including company closure days) plus all UK bank holidays.
  • Excellent Pension: A highly competitive, secure pension scheme.
  • Professional Growth: Fully funded professional development and teacher qualification pathways.
  • Perks & Wellbeing: 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and a variety of retail, food, and lifestyle discounts via an employee recognition platform and NUS scheme.
