Are you a passionate Maths tutor looking for a teaching role where your skills genuinely change lives? We are recruiting for an inspiring Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join a leading public services and education provider, on-site at a HMP. In this role, you will deliver City & Guilds qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. Teaching small, focused groups of up to 12 adult learners, you will help them develop the practical numeracy skills, confidence, and qualifications they need to unlock employment opportunities upon release and build a brighter future.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Engaging Delivery: Plan and deliver inclusive Functional Skills Maths lessons, making the subject practical, accessible, and relevant to real‑world success.
  • Individualised Learning: Conduct initial assessments using diagnostic tools (such as BKSB) to map out tailored Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for each learner.

  • Exam Preparation: Monitor student progress closely, keeping learners motivated and thoroughly prepared for their assessments and examinations.
  • Collaborative Working: Work alongside prison staff, support practitioners, and employability teams to ensure a safe, positive, and cohesive learning environment.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: A Level 3 qualification in Mathematics is essential. A Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or equivalent) is highly desirable. No Teaching Qualification? No Problem! If you have the math expertise and a passion for teaching, our client will fully fund, support, and guide you to achieve your Level 5 teaching qualifications on the job.
  • Experience: Proven experience delivering Functional Skills Maths qualifications. Experience using BKSB diagnostics or working within adult education or prison education is a major plus.
  • Key Skills: Strong classroom management, excellent lesson planning, and the ability to handle administrative tracking with great organisational skills.

Why Apply?

This is a stable, highly rewarding position with a Gold‑accredited 'Investors in People' organisation that is deeply committed to breaking the cycle of reoffending and changing attitudes towards hiring people with convictions. You will enjoy small class sizes, regular daytime hours with no take‑home marking, and an excellent benefits package that includes a dedicated annual "Life Event" day off and 30 days of annual leave.
