In this role you'll be part of a close-knit team, working face-to-face with both colleagues and learners. You'll benefit from clear boundaries between work and home life, with no working from home allowed. That means NO MARKING, NO PLANNING in your weekends or evenings. Prisons have dedicated education departments, complete with classrooms and fully-equipped workshops where learning takes place. Despite the challenges of the environment, you'll be supported every step of the way by an experienced education team, with access to ongoing training and professional development.

Details of this position:

  • This position is for a full time Maths Tutor to work in prison education.
  • Within this role, you will be required to deliver a high quality curriculum delivering Maths qualifications (Entry Level - Level 2) with the scope to eventually take on A level Maths.
  • Deliver high-quality training in Maths, ensuring lessons align with the curriculum and industry standards.
  • Adapt teaching methods to cater to varying abilities, creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to support development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the curriculum and teaching methods.
  • Engage with awarding bodies to ensure compliance with quality and assessment procedures.

Work schedule: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Salary scale: £28,000 - £36,500 per annum

To be considered, suitable candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Level 5 teaching qualification (or a commitment to obtaining it as per contractual requirements).
  • Proven experience in teaching Mathematics up to GCSE Level.
  • Level 3 Assessor Award (or equivalent).
  • Level 4 Verifier Award (or willingness to work towards it).
  • A strong commitment to student development and continuous professional learning.

Suitable candidates will need to be enthusiastic, resilient and have a humanistic approach.
