Are you passionate about delivering high-quality education to learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? We are working in partnership with a leading college to recruit a Learning Support Assistant to support SEN students. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, offering 37 hours per week, 37 weeks per year, across dual campuses.

The Role:

As an LSA, you will be providing excellent support to Learners with additional needs within the Foundation Department and the work based provision while out on their work placements. The post holder will work with a case load of identified Learners with a variety of support needs using tools to promote independence and secure employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with initial, diagnostic, and other assessments.
  • Work closely with the College's Inclusion and Foundation staff to provide effective support for identified learners, helping them fully engage with their learning programmes.
  • Take the initiative in identifying strategies to meet learners' needs, encouraging the use of assistive technology to promote independence wherever possible.
  • Provide comprehensive support for learners, including, but not limited to, job coaching during work placements, one-to-one support, classroom assistance, support outside of lessons (such as during lunch and breaks), and on visits and study trips.
  • Monitor learners' progress and provide timely feedback on their development, which may be included in reports to parents, carers, employers, and other external agencies, using the College's systems such as Show Progress, Mark Book, ProMonitor, ProSolution, and ProPortal.
  • Adapt and interpret teaching methods and instructions to suit learners' individual needs.
  • Actively contribute to and implement Individual Learning Plans, monitoring progress against targets, including those related to EHCP outcomes.
  • Contribute to the review of support as appropriate throughout the year.

What You Need:

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including maths and English (or equivalent). It would be helpful if Qualifications gained with the support of exam access arrangements (like 25% extra time or a reader) are declared.
  • Level 2 Learner Support qualification (SILD) or equivalent or be prepared to undertake within the first 2 years of employment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the support needs of learners with learning difficulties/disabilities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of issues, trends and initiatives within the education sector.
