Job Description
Temporary Functional Skills Trainer – Western Region
Location: Home-based with regular travel across the Western region.
Salary: £34,500 per annum
Contract: Fixed-term, rolling monthly basis
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
Role Overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Functional Skills Trainer to deliver high-quality Functional Skills (FS) education to apprentices within a designated region, with occasional national delivery. This role involves a combination of face-to-face and remote teaching, supporting learners with English, Maths, and some ICT, ensuring they achieve their qualifications in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging Functional Skills training to apprentices.

Manage a caseload of apprentices, monitoring progress and providing updates to key stakeholders.

Conduct face-to-face and online learning sessions using a range of interactive teaching methods.

Provide remote support for apprentices undertaking independent Functional Skills study.

Maintain accurate administrative records and track learner progress using internal systems.

Collaborate with regional delivery staff to ensure classes are well attended and effectively scheduled.

Conduct moderation activities for Functional Skills English (Speaking, Listening & Communication) as per awarding body requirements.

Assist in developing Functional Skills resources and blended learning solutions.

Undertake internal assessment sampling and report findings to the Quality and Curriculum Team.

Support the scheduling and invigilation of Functional Skills exams.

Continuously develop teaching skills through CPD activities and best practice sharing.
Key RequirementsEssential:

GCSE (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent Level 3 qualification in Maths and English.

Level 5 Diploma in Teaching with a specialism in English (Literacy) or Mathematics (Numeracy) (DTLLS) or equivalent.

Experience in delivering Functional Skills in a post-16 education setting.

Proficiency in BKSB, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and e-portfolio software.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing time effectively.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently.

Excellent IT and communication skills, including experience using online learning platforms.

Full UK driving licence and access to a car for regional travel.
Desirable:

Assessor and Internal Verification qualifications (e.g., D32/D33, D34, A1, TAQA, V1/IQA).

QTS/QTLS status or subject specialism in literacy and/or numeracy.
An enhanced DBS check will be required for this position.
