Full Time | Permanent
Location: West Midlands
Are you an experienced highway maintenance professional looking to share your skills with the next generation of technicians?
About the Role
As a Highway Maintenance Assessor, you'll assess apprentices working towards their Highways Maintenance apprenticeship standard, visiting them in the workplace to track their progress and support their development.
You will join a further education provider in the West Midlands, working closely with employers, tutors and apprentices to plan reviews, record evidence of progress and prepare learners for their end-point assessment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing apprentices' progress in essential road maintenance skills, including surface repair and kerb and pavement maintenance.
- Conducting regular reviews with the apprentice, employer and tutor to discuss progress and achievements.
- Supporting apprentices to gather the off-the-job learning hours, functional skills and record of evidence needed to reach Gateway.
- Preparing apprentices for their end-point assessment, including the knowledge test and the practical task covering bitumen laying, kerb laying, and concrete or modular paving.
- Confirming learner competency alongside the employer ahead of Gateway.
- A relevant qualification in highway maintenance, or significant industry experience
About You

- has hands-on experience working within highway maintenance or a related industry
- enjoys mentoring and supporting learners to develop practical, industry-ready skills
- is comfortable working outdoors and alongside skilled tradespeople in real highway environments
- can build strong working relationships with employers, tutors and apprentices
If you're ready to help shape the next generation of highway maintenance operatives, we'd love to hear from you.
