Permanent

Location: London

Salary: From Β£35,000 per annum

Are you an engaging educator with strong numeracy skills looking for a teaching role where your work genuinely changes lives?

About the Role

We are recruiting a Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join a training provider in the justice sector, delivering Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2 within a prison education setting.

You'll teach small, focused groups of adult learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities. Many will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, empathy and a belief in each individual's potential will matter as much as your subject knowledge. Your job is to make maths accessible, relevant and directly useful for employment and daily life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering interactive Functional Skills Maths sessions from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
  • Conducting initial assessments and diagnostics to establish learners' starting points, then setting up and maintaining Individual Learning Plans.
  • Designing inclusive, differentiated lessons that cater to diverse abilities and additional needs, preparing learners thoroughly for formal assessments.
  • Promoting numeracy and functional literacy across the prison environment while working alongside prison staff, support practitioners and employability teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
  • Excellent administrative capability, including maintaining ILPs and tracking progress
  • Resilience and professionalism to work in a secure environment

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
  • Prior experience within prison education, FE or adult learning settings
  • Familiarity with BKSB diagnostic tools
  • Knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF)

No Level 5 qualification? Candidates with relevant delivery experience who are willing to work towards a Level 5 qualification are fully encouraged to apply.

A real person, not an automated email. If we are not the right fit for you we will say so quickly rather than leave you waiting.

  • Administrative capability including ILPs and progress tracking
  • Resilience to work in secure environment
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • HMPPS security vetting
