Do you want to play a key role in reducing reoffending by inspiring adult learners-many with little or no prior formal education-to gain practical trade skills, workplace confidence, and industry qualifications? We are recruiting for a passionate Vocational Construction Tutor to join the education team on-site at HMP Onley. Working with small groups of prison-based learners, you will deliver high-quality, practical construction training, helping them build technical competence, positive workplace habits, and job-readiness for post-release employment in the building sector. What You Will Be Doing Practical Vocational Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality construction sessions, adapting lesson plans to meet diverse learner needs and abilities. Confidence & Skill Building: Inspire and mentor learners with limited educational backgrounds, helping them develop practical trade skills, self-esteem, and positive workplace behaviours. Individual Training Plans: Establish tailored learning goals for every student, offering consistent advice, guidance, and constructive feedback throughout their training. Safety & Tool Control: Maintain strict health & safety standards, workshop discipline, and tool inventory control in compliance with prison security protocols. Rehabilitation Focus: Link practical training directly to real-world construction careers, preparing learners for successful entry into the trade upon release. What We Are Looking For Trade Qualifications: Essential Level 2 or Level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant construction discipline (e.g., Bricklaying, Multi-Skills, Carpentry, or General Building). Core Skills: GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills in both Maths and English. Vocational Expertise: Substantial hands-on industry experience as an expert within the construction sector. Teaching Qualifications: A teaching or assessing qualification and prior delivery experience are desirable. No teaching qualification? No problem!
