We are seeking a Head of Science to lead a dual-site department, encompassing a vibrant 11-16 Academy and a dedicated Sixth Form Centre. This isn’t just about managing a department, it’s about architecting a scientific journey for students from their first experiment in Year 7 to their University applications in Year 13. We need a strategist who can translate complex educational theory into classroom brilliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Curriculum Leadership: Oversee the delivery of high-quality, rigorous Science lessons across KS3, KS4, and KS5, ensuring pedagogical approaches are evidence-based and tailored to the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Data-Driven Achievement: Systematically monitor and analyse student performance data across the department to implement targeted interventions, providing faculty-wide feedback that secures exceptional academic outcomes.
  • Holistic Pastoral Guidance: Serve as the senior point of contact for student welfare within the department and act as a Form Tutor, championing positive professional relationships between the Academy, students, and the wider community.
  • Collaborative Innovation: Lead the Science faculty in designing cutting-edge resources and curriculum maps, driving the sophisticated integration of ICT and Interactive Whiteboard technology to bring complex scientific concepts to life.
  • Departmental Culture & Safety: Cultivate a high-standard learning environment by mentoring staff in effective classroom management and ensuring all laboratory practices maintain the highest levels of safety, motivation, and student discipline.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong Science-based degree.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (Leadership or Management certifications are a plus).
  • A sophisticated understanding of how cognitive science influences modern Science teaching.
