About the Role
As a Motor Vehicle & HGV Lecturer, you'll deliver engaging, practical teaching that helps learners build the technical skills and underpinning knowledge they need to progress into the automotive and transport industries. You'll plan and prepare lessons that combine hands-on workshop practice with classroom theory, creating a learning environment where students can develop both competence and confidence.
Working with a further education provider in the North West, you'll assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and adapt your teaching to suit learners at different levels and stages of their training.
If you come from industry rather than a teaching background, that's welcome here. You'll be supported to develop your classroom practice through mentoring and ongoing professional development, with a start date of September 2026.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planning and delivering practical and theory-based lessons in motor vehicle and HGV maintenance and repair.
Demonstrating industry-standard techniques and safe working practices in a workshop setting.
Assessing learner work and providing feedback that supports progression.
Preparing learners for practical assessments and industry-recognised qualifications.
Maintaining accurate records of learner attendance, progress and achievement.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Significant industry experience in motor vehicle and/or HGV maintenance and repair
A relevant technical qualification in motor vehicle or HGV engineering
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage learners of varying abilities
Desirable (but not essential):
A teaching qualification (such as a PGCE, DET or PTLLS)
Previous experience teaching or mentoring in a workshop or training environment
A full driving licence, with HGV licence an advantage
