Painting and Decorating Tutor

Permanent

Location: the East of England

Salary: From £30,000 per annum

Are you a skilled painter and decorator looking for a role where your trade expertise genuinely changes lives?

About the Role

We are seeking an inspiring Painting and Decorating Tutor to join an education provider in the justice sector, delivering meaningful vocational learning within a prison education setting. This is a unique opportunity to support learners on their rehabilitation journey, helping them build the practical skills, confidence and qualifications needed to progress into employment and shape brighter futures.

You’ll deliver engaging and inclusive painting and decorating lessons to small groups of learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities. Many of your learners will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, empathy and a genuine belief in each individual's potential will matter as much as your technical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering painting and decorating qualifications to groups of learners.
  • Conducting initial assessments and diagnostics to identify learners' starting points and needs.
  • Planning and adapting lessons to meet a diverse range of abilities and learning needs.
  • Setting individual training plans and providing ongoing advice, guidance and constructive feedback.
  • Maintaining strict workshop standards, including health and safety, tool control and workshop cleanliness, within a secure learning environment.
  • Assessing learner work, tracking progress and maintaining accurate course documentation in line with awarding body guidelines.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • A Level 2 (or higher) vocational qualification in painting and decorating or a related construction trade
  • Substantial hands‑on industry experience as a painter, decorator or finishing specialist
  • Experience delivering vocational or on‑the‑job trade training, using varied methods to engage learners with diverse needs

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A teaching or assessing qualification
  • No teaching qualification? No problem. Full support and funding will be provided to help you work towards the required qualification during your probationary period.
