The Opportunity
Are you an experienced groundworker or streetworks specialist looking to step off the site and use your trade expertise to build better futures? Do you want to play a key role in reducing reoffending by giving adult learners the practical skills, qualifications, and confidence needed to secure employment in the civil engineering and construction sectors upon release?
We are recruiting for a practical, dedicated Streetworks / Groundworks Tutor to join the education and vocational training team on-site at HMP Highpoint. In this highly practical role, you will deliver training and qualifications up to Level 2 to small groups of prison-based learners, developing their technical skills, safety awareness, and workplace behaviours to help them reach their full potential.
What You Will Be Doing
- Vocational Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality Streetworks and Groundworks courses up to Level 2, blending practical site-style training with classroom theory.
- Individual Training Plans: Ensure tailored training plans are established for every learner, providing ongoing advice, guidance, and constructive feedback throughout their qualification.
- Workplace Standards: Instill key industry standards, including health & safety, site discipline, teamwork, and tool maintenance within a secure learning environment.
- Progress Tracking: Assess learner work, track progress accurately, and maintain detailed documentation in line with awarding body and organisational guidelines.
- Rehabilitation Focus: Build learner confidence, work-readiness, and motivation, aligning training directly with post-release construction and civil engineering employment opportunities.
What We Are Looking For
- Trade Qualifications: A Level 2 qualification in Streetworks, Groundworks, or a related civil engineering trade.
- Vocational Expertise: Substantial hands-on industry experience as an expert in groundworks, excavation, utility installation, or roadworks.
- Training Experience: Proven experience delivering vocational or on-the-job training, with the ability to use varied methods to engage learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Teaching Qualifications: A teaching or assessing qualification is desirable. No teaching qualification? No problem! Full support and funding will be provided to help you achieve the appropriate teaching/assessing qualifications during your probationary period.
