We are recruiting for a dedicated Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join the education team on-site at HMP Whitemoor. In this role, you will deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2. Teaching small, focused groups of up to 12 adult learners, you will play a vital role in their rehabilitation journey-using practical, adaptive techniques to make maths accessible, relevant, and directly applicable to future employment and daily life. What You Will Be Doing Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver interactive City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths sessions to small class sizes (up to 12 learners) across Entry Level 1 to Level 2. Assessment & Tracking: Conduct initial assessments and utilise BKSB diagnostic tools to establish baseline levels, setting up and maintaining Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). Targeted Support: Design inclusive, differentiated lesson plans catering to diverse learning abilities and additional needs, thoroughly preparing learners for formal examinations. Enrichment & Collaboration: Promote numeracy, functional literacy, and reading for pleasure across the prison environment while working alongside prison staff, support practitioners, and employability teams. What We Are Looking For Qualifications: A Level 3 qualification in Mathematics and a Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or equivalent) are desirable. No Teaching or Level 3 Qualification? No Problem! If you have a strong numeracy background and a passion for teaching, full support and funding can be provided to help you work towards these qualifications on the job. Experience: Proven experience delivering Functional Skills Maths. Prior experience within prison education, adult learning, or Further Education (FE) is advantageous. Key Skills: Excellent classroom management, adaptive teaching methods, strong administrative skills, and a genuine passion for making maths engaging. Desirable Criteria: Familiarity with BKSB tools, knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF), or an Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification.
