Carpentry Tutor
Permanent
HMP Weyland
Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Are you a skilled carpentry professional looking for a role where your trade expertise genuinely changes lives?
About the Role
We are seeking an inspiring Carpentry Tutor to join an education provider in the justice sector, delivering meaningful vocational learning within a prison education setting. This is a unique opportunity to support learners on their rehabilitation journey, helping them build the practical skills, confidence and qualifications needed to progress into employment and shape brighter futures.
You’ll deliver engaging and inclusive carpentry lessons to learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities. Many of your learners will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, empathy and a genuine belief in each individual's potential will matter as much as your technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering carpentry qualifications to groups of learners.
- Conducting initial assessments and diagnostics to identify learners' starting points and needs.
- Planning and adapting lessons to meet a diverse range of abilities and learning needs.
- Supporting learners to develop practical workshop skills alongside the confidence to apply them.
- Tracking and recording learner progress towards their qualifications.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Relevant trade experience and qualifications in carpentry
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage learners with varied needs
- A genuine commitment to supporting rehabilitation through education
Desirable (but not essential):
- A teaching or assessing qualification
- Previous experience delivering training or teaching in a vocational setting
- Full support and funding is available to help you work towards the required teaching qualification while you settle into the role.
Important Notice
We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to satisfactory vetting, including a right to work check and, where relevant, an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS security vetting, in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Justice.
We are an equal opportunities employer.
Because rehabilitation matters.
