Are you a passionate English tutor looking for a role where your teaching genuinely makes a difference?
About the Role
We are seeking an inspiring English Tutor to join an education provider in the justice sector, delivering meaningful learning within a young offenders' education setting. This is a unique opportunity to support young learners on their rehabilitation journey, helping them build the literacy skills, confidence and qualifications needed to progress into employment, training or further education.
You'll deliver engaging and inclusive English lessons to learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities. Many of your learners will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, empathy and a genuine belief in each individual's potential will matter as much as your subject knowledge.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering English qualifications, including functional skills, to groups of learners.
- Conducting initial assessments and diagnostics to identify learners' starting points and needs.
- Planning and adapting lessons to meet a diverse range of abilities and learning styles.
- Using innovative teaching approaches and resources to make English relevant and accessible.
- Monitoring and recording learner progress, providing constructive feedback to support achievement.
- Creating a safe, respectful and encouraging learning environment within a secure setting.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience teaching or tutoring English, ideally to learners with varied abilities
- A relevant English or teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Resilience, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting disadvantaged learners
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working within a prison, youth justice or other secure education setting
- A teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed or DET
- Experience delivering functional skills English qualifications
If you're ready to bring your English teaching skills to a setting where they can truly transform young lives, we'd love to hear from you.
We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to satisfactory vetting, including a right to work check and, where relevant, an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS security vetting, in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Justice.
