A Staffordshire-based FE college is seeking a passionate and motivated English Lecturer to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to post-16 learners. The Role

You will deliver engaging and effective GCSE and Functional Skills English lessons to learners across a range of vocational areas, many of whom are resitting English to achieve a Grade 4. Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver high-quality GCSE & Functional Skills English sessions
  • Plan, prepare, and adapt lessons to meet a range of learner needs
  • Monitor and track learner progress, providing timely feedback
  • Support learners with confidence, engagement, and exam preparation
  • Implement strategies to improve attendance, retention, and achievement
  • Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement
  • Work collaboratively with support staff to ensure inclusive practice

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in English or a related subject
  • Experience teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English
  • Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE/DET or equivalent) or willingness to work towards
  • Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
  • Commitment to supporting learners from diverse and challenging backgrounds

Desirable

  • Experience teaching within Further Education
  • Understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills frameworks
  • Experience supporting resit learners
