A well-regarded secondary school is seeking a committed and ambitious Deputy SENCO to join its established inclusion team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher with SEND experience who is passionate about removing barriers to learning and improving outcomes for students with additional needs. The role would suit an existing Deputy SENCO, Assistant SENCO, SEND Teacher, or a teacher with strong inclusion experience looking to progress into SEND leadership.

The successful candidate will work closely with the SENDCo and wider leadership team to support the delivery of high-quality SEND provision across the school, ensuring students receive the academic, pastoral, and emotional support they need to thrive.

The Role

The Deputy SENCO will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of SEND provision across the school, contributing to intervention planning, staff support, student progress monitoring, and inclusive teaching practice. The role combines strategic inclusion support with direct student intervention work and offers the opportunity to develop leadership experience within a collaborative and well-supported environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the SENDCo in the leadership and coordination of SEND provision across the school
  • Monitor student progress and evaluate the impact of interventions and support strategies
  • Deliver targeted small group and 1:1 interventions for students with SEND
  • Support teaching staff with inclusive classroom practice and Quality First Teaching
  • Work collaboratively with parents, external agencies, safeguarding teams, and pastoral staff
  • Assist with referrals, assessments, annual reviews, and SEND documentation
  • Support the deployment and development of Learning Support Assistants and mentoring staff
  • Promote high aspirations, inclusion, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for students with SEND
  • Contribute to safeguarding, pastoral support, and wider inclusion strategies across the school

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or currently completing ECT induction
  • Experience supporting students with SEND within a secondary school setting
  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching practice and SEND support strategies
  • Experience delivering interventions and monitoring student progress
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills
  • A proactive, resilient, and student-centred approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary school environment

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting EHCP processes and annual reviews
  • Previous SEND, inclusion, or pastoral leadership experience
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Experience working with external agencies and multi-agency teams
  • Experience supporting LSAs or mentoring support staff
