Construction Trainer HMP Leyhill Permanent Location: Gloucestershire Salary: £37,000 per annum Are you an experienced construction professional looking to bring your trade skills into the classroom and make a genuine difference to learners' futures? About the Role You'll join an education provider in the justice sector, delivering practical construction training to learners in a custodial setting. This is an opportunity to use your trade background to help people build the skills, qualifications and confidence they need to move into employment on release. You'll plan and deliver engaging, hands-on sessions covering core construction skills, supporting learners of varying ability and experience. Working within a secure environment, you'll create a safe, structured and encouraging workshop setting where learners can develop practical competence alongside the wider skills employers look for. Your responsibilities will include: Planning and delivering practical construction training sessions to individuals and small groups. Assessing learner progress and maintaining accurate records of achievement. Preparing learners for relevant construction qualifications and progression into employment or further training. Maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop and ensuring tools, materials and equipment are used and stored correctly. Working collaboratively with education and wider prison staff to support learners' development. What We're Looking For Essential: Significant hands-on experience in a construction trade Relevant trade qualification (such as NVQ or City & Guilds) in a construction discipline Sound understanding of health and safety practice in a workshop setting Ability to work within the security requirements of a custodial environment, including enhanced DBS clearance Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate learners Desirable (but not essential): A teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one Previous experience delivering training or mentoring in a workplace or education setting Experience working with learners who have had disrupted education or additional learning needs If you're ready to bring your trade expertise into a role that genuinely changes lives, we'd love to hear from you.
