Are you an experienced educator and team leader ready to step into operational management within a secure environment?

About the Role

We are recruiting an Assistant Manager to join the senior leadership team of an employer in the justice sector, supporting the Education Manager in the day-to-day running of a busy education department. You will oversee curriculum delivery, drive quality improvement and help develop a teaching team that delivers genuinely outstanding outcomes for learners working towards rehabilitation and employment.

This is a role for someone who can combine strong teaching credentials with the confidence to lead, coach and deputise at a senior level, and who understands the particular demands and rewards of education within a secure setting.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Education Manager with day-to-day operations, including learner inductions, allocations and conduct, and deputising for the manager when required.
  • Overseeing delivery and continuous improvement across the curriculum, ensuring provision meets awarding body standards and employer expectations.
  • Leading internal quality assurance processes, developmental observations and learning walks, and using management information to drive recruitment, retention and achievement targets.
  • Managing and mentoring teaching staff through appraisals, probation reviews and tailored CPD plans.
  • Contributing to the Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan in line with Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework.
  • Delivering cover teaching sessions when necessary.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Level 5 or above teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
  • Level 3 qualifications in Maths and English
  • IQA qualification, or a willingness to achieve one upon appointment
  • Significant teaching experience with a proven track record of staff management and curriculum oversight
  • Strong working knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager qualification
  • Experience working within a secure or custodial environment

We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to satisfactory vetting, including a right to work check and, where relevant, an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS security vetting, in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Justice.

We are an equal opportunities employer. By applying, you consent to your data being processed for recruitment purposes in line with our Privacy Policy.
