About the Role
We are recruiting a Construction Tutor to join an education provider in the justice sector, delivering practical construction training within a secure education setting. Working with small groups of learners, many of whom have had limited or difficult experiences of education, you'll help them build technical competence, workplace confidence and the qualifications needed to move into employment on release. This is a hands-on role where your industry knowledge will matter as much as your ability to engage, mentor and encourage learners who are rebuilding their lives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, practical construction sessions tailored to learners' abilities and backgrounds.
- Establishing individual learning plans and offering consistent advice, guidance and constructive feedback.
- Mentoring learners with limited educational backgrounds, helping them develop trade skills, self-esteem and positive workplace behaviours.
- Maintaining strict health and safety standards, workshop discipline and tool inventory control in line with prison security protocols.
- Linking practical training to real-world construction careers to support learners' progression into employment after release.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Level 2 or Level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant construction discipline, such as bricklaying, carpentry, multi-skills or general building
- GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English
- Substantial hands-on industry experience in the construction sector
- Excellent communication and group engagement skills, with resilience and a genuine passion for mentoring learners from diverse backgrounds
Desirable (but not essential):
- A teaching or assessing qualification and prior delivery experience
No teaching qualification? No problem. Candidates with strong industry experience who are willing to work towards a teaching qualification on the job are fully encouraged to apply.
If you're ready to bring your trade expertise into the classroom and make a genuine difference to learners rebuilding their futures, we'd love to hear from you.
