Key responsibilities
- Strategic leadership: Work with senior leaders to develop and implement an ambitious vision for English, Maths and ESOL provision.
- Curriculum development: Lead curriculum planning and ensure provision is inclusive, up-to-date and aligned to funding and accountability requirements.
- Quality & improvement: Drive outstanding teaching, learning and assessment and lead on strategies to raise achievement in English and Maths.
- Team leadership: Manage and develop a team of teaching staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Programme management: Oversee delivery of GCSEs, Functional Skills and ESOL programmes for a range of learners (16+, adults), ensuring compliance with relevant quality and funding frameworks.
Essential requirements
- Leadership experience in curriculum management within further education or adult education.
- Track record of improving quality and learner outcomes in English, Maths or ESOL.
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
- Strong communication, organisational and people-management skills.
- Experience of managing diverse teams and implementing innovative teaching approaches.
Desirable
- Experience of delivering or overseeing Functional Skills and GCSE programmes.
- Experience of supporting learners who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in English/Maths.
- Experience of working with a broad range of learners including adult ESOL students.
