The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the process optimisation of technical manufacturing operations, process change management, 5S, standard work instruction creation, auditing, and the capacity planning of value streams. The qualified candidate will have manufacturing process improvement experience, and thoroughly understand fundamental lean manufacturing principles. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer also undertakes a role in giving guidance to the Manufacturing Engineers in their own areas of responsibility, taking a lead within the team to report out activity and resource allocation. The role also provides cover for Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering in daily operation activities during periods of absence and unavailability.
Main Responsibilities:
- Report out key metrics for the department dashboard and undertake improvement initiatives to improve performance and effectiveness of the department.
- Work internally to the department giving guidance to the Manufacturing Engineers in their own areas of responsibility.
- Provide support to factory projects and assist coordinating resources to best suit the project scope.
- Develop and deploy manufacturing processes to deliver product through the value streams by way of application of professional Manufacturing Engineering techniques.
- Deploy new products within the Dundee Manufacturing Centre, interacting with design engineering to ensure design for manufacturing (DFM) issues are addressed and incorporated in new designs.
- Contribute to a cross functional team environment with Design Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Planning to realise improved time to market with new products and to maintain our current production capability.
- Work with the Operations team to make operational adjustments as necessary, to ensure continued growth in productivity and efficiency, by reviewing KPIs, daily.
- Under general direction, plan and implement the layouts of the plant and production equipment to provide the maximum utilisation of facilities.
- Apply lean principles to optimise work/process flow, to the efficiency of production and reducing product changeover times.
- Investigate and implement new technologies to digitalise and automate product manufacturing.
- Document standard work, including creation of work instructions, recording, and analysing cycle times, and value stream mapping.
- Initiate and lead Kaizen events.
- Initiate and lead manufacturing improvement projects.
- Author formal requests for capital expenditures.
- Positively influence personnel during process changes, and successfully manage that change.
Essential Qualifications:
- Qualifications in an Engineering and/or a manufacturing discipline.
- Experience in Project Management (ideally a qualification).
- Show leadership qualities with effective communication.
- Can prioritise tasks to identify what is important and when.
- Has a level of autonomy but can also escalate when appropriate.
- Experience of introduction of new products within a manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills and Competencies: (desirable)
- Interpretation of engineering drawings.
- Previous use of problem-solving tools, such as 5 Why and A3.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools to create spreadsheets, standard work instructions, and other documents.
