With established manufacturing sites globally, we are now seeking to recruit additional permanent staff due to expansion at our facility in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Manufacturing Engineer will primarily be responsible for planning CNC programs to control contour path machining of metal/composite parts on automatic machine tools.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • An established background in the precision engineering industry, manufacturing mechanical components to high tolerances, in a variety of metals.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in undertaking off-line CNC programming, using CAD/CAM software within a lean-manufacturing work environment.
  • Previous experience with Gibbs CAM software is an advantage.
  • Experienced with the use of precision inspection equipment including CMM, micrometers, callipers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
  • Qualified to a minimum of NVQ 3, or equivalent such as a time-served apprenticeship or HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Prince2 or similar project management experience would be an advantage.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Analyze drawings and design data to determine dimensions and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, machine speeds and feed rates, reference points, and direction of machine cutting paths.
  • Analyze routings at programming stage and update processes to guarantee CNC machine tools are used to their fullest capability, using creativity, vision, and an organized plan for the future.
  • Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outline the sequence of operations required to machine parts.
  • Create, revise, and edit CNC programs in line with routed operations; create set-up documents to supplement written programs.
  • Liaise with shop floor personnel, shift managers, and suppliers regarding required tooling and fixtures.
  • Create bills of materials for manufactured components.
  • Create routings for manufactured components, including route card improvements (clear programs created and tooling identified).
  • Analyze and advise on make vs. purchase decisions.
  • Identify and implement solutions that lead to cost savings.
  • Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity.
  • Actively seek out and identify Continuous Improvement opportunities.
