The NPD/NPI quality engineer is a key appointment operating from a significant site with 400+ employees. We have an excellent reputation for the innovation, quality and breadth of products, supplying a wide and demanding marketplace in which the requirements for world-class quality are ever present. Our business is the development and manufacture of a broad range of fuel dispenser products with significant bespoke elements utilizing a wide range of technologies, materials, and an extended supply chain.
The role is responsible for lifecycle of NPD/NPI projects from a quality point of view, ultimately ensuring that the introduction of the new product meets the quality requirements and expectations of our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent quality in the NPD/NPI projects.
- Review proposed projects, complete the risk register associated with the change.
- With engineering define the test plan and define the pass/fail parameter.
- With engineering lead, develop the DFMEA.
- Participate in the prototype/design review, and complete the log register with the quality concerns, and rate their level of priority and risk.
- Follow up on DFMEA/Risk register/design review log register to ensure the points of concerns are addressed.
- Participate in the PFMEA in the factory.
- Complete the quality register, in line with the different phase of the project, to ensure each phase has reached the expected output to move on to the next one.
- Support the supplier quality team, in the PPAPs, and liaise with engineering for supplier development.
- Influence others, with decision based on facts.
- Sort/interpret a high volume of data to reach conclusion (Six Sigma – Minitab).
- Innovate solutions to resolve quality-related challenges in the NPD process.
Candidate Experience And Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality or related discipline strongly preferred, or comparable combination of education and experience is required (5+ years’ experience in manufacturing).
- Familiarity with test methods and validation techniques such as design validation and verification, and environmental testing.
- Knowledge and practice of risk assessment tools like failure mode and effects analysis, fault tree analysis.
- Knowledge and practice of design for manufacturability, and design for assembly principles.
- Understanding of the product development lifecycle from concept through design, prototyping, testing and production.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
- Ability to communicate complex quality issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong skills in statistical tools such as control charts, histograms, and capability indices (Cp, Cpk).
- Organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
Additional Attributes:
- Experience in managing supplier relationships, ensuring suppliers meet quality standards and specifications (Ability to conduct supplier audits).
- Problem-solving skills using methodologies like 8D, Five Whys, Ishikawa (Fishbone) diagrams, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
