The Import/Export Customs Specialist will provide direct support to the customer service and shipping teams, ensuring strong departmental performance in all areas of trade compliance. You will be accountable for import and export activities, driving operational excellence and developing sustainable processes across the department.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with import and export regulations through operational support, documentation review, and adherence to internal control procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by verifying documentation accuracy, regulatory alignment, and customs requirements.
- Prepare Letters of Authority for agent representatives acting on behalf of the company in both import and export activities.
- Liaise with declarants, brokers, logistics providers, and other stakeholders to collect, review, and validate legal and customs documentation for cross border movements.
- Review classifications, valuations, and the accuracy of required customs documents such as commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, import licenses, and export declarations to support efficient import and export clearance.
- Monitor cross border transactions to identify discrepancies, escalating compliance risks, and maintain accurate recordkeeping aligned with regulatory retention requirements.
- Monitor and reconcile ROI and NI movements to ensure correct duty treatment, regulatory alignment, and accurate reporting across jurisdictions.
- Review and reconcile deferment account statements, ensuring correct duty/VAT postings and timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Handle post-entry amendments, including corrections to customs declarations, valuation adjustments, and classification updates, ensuring compliance with HMRC and EU requirements.
- Manage T1 transit document queries, ensuring accurate discharge, timely follow-up with brokers, and prevention of potential customs liabilities.
- Coordinate with internal functions including finance, materials, compliance, and operations to ensure smooth import and export activities aligned with trade compliance policies.
- Drive operational excellence in trade compliance by developing and implementing tools, frameworks, reporting systems, and process improvements that enhance control, accuracy, and efficiency across import and export operations.
- Other duties pertaining to corporate compliance as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education Level: Associates Degree in Relevant Discipline - Desirable
- Technical Skills: Data analysis and Microsoft (Excel) skills a must.
