The Role & Responsibilities

Dover District Council are committed to delivering an excellent customer focused, housing management service. To help us achieve this, we are looking to recruit a dynamic, skilled and high performing individual who shares our commitment to delivering excellence across the housing sector. You can help make the difference. You will be expected to be part of a team providing and managing delivery of a comprehensive housing management service for Dover District Council tenants. You will be expected to provide a specialist service to support tenants in our Independent Living accommodation, or those paying an enhanced management fee for support, and those tenants who require additional support to maintain their tenancy due to a vulnerability, including liaison with appropriate external agencies. You will manage a patch of properties and you should have working knowledge of social housing, anti‑social behaviour related legislation and best practice.

Who We Are Looking For

The post holder will have experience in housing management within a local authority or similar environment, including providing housing support to vulnerable residents and managing and resolving anti‑social behaviour. A good understanding of housing and tenancy law, along with knowledge of crime, disorder and anti‑social behaviour legislation, is essential. Experience working within a housing‑related organisation, planning and implementing change, and working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders, including communities and external agencies, is required. The role demands strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, influence others and communicate confidently with residents, senior officers and partner organisations. Excellent organisational and IT skills are needed, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams, and the ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and perform effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines. The post holder must demonstrate the ability to understand customer needs, handle sensitive situations appropriately, and adopt a firm yet empathic approach during discussions and negotiations. Experience of taking cases to court to enforce tenancy or other breaches is desirable.
