The role is responsible for acting as chauffeur to the Chairman of the Council and Vice‑Chairman of the Council, while at times also chauffeuring other senior elected members. The role includes assisting the Chairman or Vice‑Chairman at functions and engagements, representing the Council publicly. The role also involves assisting the Chairman at events, ranging from celebratory occasions to remembrance ceremonies, and preparing the Chairman for full Council meetings.
The work schedule is a mixture of daytime and out‑of‑hours duties, primarily evenings and weekends. We are looking for several people to fill this role and work will be offered on a casual basis. The role supports the Democratic Services team and reports to the Head of Corporate Services and Democracy.
The position is based at Dover District Council's Whitfield Offices, which will be the starting point for all journeys as chauffeur. Candidates will be responsible for funding their own travel to and from work, so please consider this if you have a long commute. The Council has an electric vehicle that will be used as the civic car. Candidates will be responsible for collecting and returning the vehicle to the Council Offices.
It is desirable, although not essential, to have practical experience in chauffeuring duties and experience of attending to Senior Elected Members at civic functions. A valid full driving licence (group B) is essential. The role requires the ability to deal with people and a willingness and ability to work with minimal supervision.
