We are looking for a hard-working Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly and established team at Deanwood Manor Care Home, Spring Road, Orrell, Wigan. The working hours will be 4 days per week OR 3 days per week - 9am–3.30pm on a rota basis with alternate weekend availability required. We have 2 contract options – 24 hours per week or 18 hours per week!
As a Kitchen Assistant, you are responsible (under the supervision of the Head Cook) for the preparation, simple cooking, serving of food and cleanliness of the kitchen. Your duties will include:
- Preparation and cooking of breakfast, lunch and evening meals and the preparing of sandwiches, sweets and snacks.
- Preparing plates, dishes and food trays to a high standard for the host to serve to our residents.
- Washing up after meals. Ensuring all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and where appropriate the dining areas) is carried out effectively.
- Completing cleaning close down duties for the kitchen at end of day.
- Ensuring all equipment is clean and well maintained according to our specified standards.
- Checking and recording temperatures of food and equipment and keeping accurate records.
- Ensuring that food stores and fridges/freezers are adequately stocked and are clean and tidy.
- Helping with acceptance of deliveries and putting stock away.
- Ensuring all equipment is clean and maintained.
- Making sure that chemicals/equipment are used correctly and safety procedures adhered to at all times.
- Adhering to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
- Understanding and ensuring the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety, Infection Control and Hygiene policies, and Emergency First aid and Fire procedures.
- Reporting immediately to the Head Chef, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service User, colleague, self or another.
- Reporting to the Head Chef, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazards.
- Contributing to the safeguarding of adults by ensuring you are aware of your role in relation to the Home’s Safeguarding Adult’s Policy, taking steps to protect Residents from any form of abuse or neglect and use the appropriate reporting mechanisms to inform the Home’s Management of any concerns.
- Promoting and ensuring the good reputation of the Home.
- Carrying out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
Other Requirements:
- Participation in Staff and Client meetings as required.
- Maintaining and improving professional knowledge and competence.
- Attending mandatory training days/courses, on or off site as and when required.
