An exciting opportunity has been created at Dovecote Veterinary Hospital for a 3 year, ECVN approved residency in Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery. Dovecote is a busy, progressive, growing, multi-disciplinary, referral-hospital in the Midlands.

Besides neurology, our hospital specialities include Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology and Ophthalmology. The hospital is located in Castle Donington - a growing picturesque market town in the heart of the Midlands with an international airport (East Midlands), within 30 minutes from Nottingham, Derby and Leicester and close to the Peak District.

We are also a clinical associate practice for the University of Nottingham Veterinary School. The neurology/neurosurgery team includes four ECVN Diplomates, a senior board-eligible neurologist and one resident. Our residency program has been developed over the last 9 years and has, so far, successfully prepared four ECVN diplomates.

We provide a supportive environment with active case discussion, besides having a very stimulating and varied caseload with plenty of opportunities of learning how to manage both neuro-medical or neuro-surgical cases. The resident will also be involved in the clinical teaching of final year veterinary students from the University of Nottingham, during their Neurology rotation.

Clinical research is also encouraged, and Dovecote Veterinary Referrals is a significant player in neurological clinical research within the UK private referral sector. The resident will have allocated off-clinics time for both research and study, as well as preparing regular journal and book clubs.

Dovecote Veterinary Hospital is part of the CVS Referrals network, so you will be joining a large network of multiple specialists across our seven UK referral locations. During the 3-year residency, there will also be the opportunity of completing an integrated masters in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

The successful candidate should preferably have completed a rotating internship and/or a neurology internship and will be expected to work for the Diploma examination for admission to the European College of Veterinary Neurology. Being a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) or qualified to become one, is also a requirement.

Visiting the Hospital and the Neurology department is encouraged. We are looking for a team player, a communicative person with a strong passion for neurology!

To apply, please attach a covering letter and CV. For any questions, please contact Sergio Gomes by email (sergio.gomes@dovecotereferrals.co.uk). The closing date for applications is Saturday 28th February 2026.
