Position: Locum Senior Property Lawyer (Up to 6 Months)

Salary: Hourly Rate DOE

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands

Working Style: 2 Office days are required per week

Douglas Scott are working with a housing business to recruit a solicitor or legal executive into their team on a locum basis for up to 6 months. Are you a dedicated and experienced professional locum looking for a role that offers both challenge and variety? This position provides an excellent chance to showcase your expertise while gaining invaluable experience in a supportive and professional environment.

You’ll need to be able to hit the ground running as the role will have a caseload to take over and manage from day one.

About the Role: As part of the Housing Legal team, you’ll work closely with the Head of Housing providing expert property legal advice to the wider organisation and also responsible for a junior property lawyer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing complex casework from start to finish, particularly in relation to property ownership/title/freehold and leasehold issues.
  • Proven experience in residential and commercial property law with a solid understanding of the processes and requirements involved.
  • Maintain a log of leasehold interests and report back on enfranchisement opportunities.
  • Issue new leases or interim licences, LFA's, variations or terminations.
  • Additional ad hoc advice and drafting in relation to wayleaves, easements, rights and potential acquisitions/disposals of properties.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Supervision of junior legal assistant's work.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5-9 years PQE Solicitor or Legal Executive with no upper limit.
  • Qualified Solicitor, CiLEX, or equivalent in England and Wales.
  • Strong knowledge of property law and its application.
  • Proven experience advising at a senior level while dealing with a high caseload.
  • Relevant housing sector experience desirable but not essential.
