My client is looking for a Junior Costs Draftsperson / Trainee Costs Lawyer to join their growing Costs team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous costs experience who is looking to develop their career within legal costs, or for an individual who is currently undertaking (or interested in undertaking) the Costs Lawyer Qualification Course.
The successful candidate will work closely with experienced costs professionals, gaining exposure to a broad range of costs matters while developing their technical knowledge and progressing their career.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the preparation of bills of costs, including detailed assessment bills, across a variety of costs regimes.
- Supporting senior costs professionals with Points of Dispute, Replies, schedules of costs, and costs-related advice.
- Assisting with costs budgeting, monitoring budgets, and preparing budget updates and variations.
- Supporting the assessment of costs risks throughout the litigation process.
- Reviewing retainers, funding arrangements, and costs correspondence to ensure compliance with relevant procedures and rules.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders and fee earners across a range of practice areas on costs-related matters.
- Assisting with costs negotiations and settlement discussions.
- Conducting research into costs law, procedural rules, and relevant case law developments.
- Maintaining accurate records and supporting internal reporting requirements.
- Assisting with court deadlines, assessments, and hearing preparation.
- Developing knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, Costs Practice Direction, and relevant case law.
- Supporting the delivery of costs training and knowledge sharing within the wider team.
About You

The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience within a legal costs environment, ideally gained within a law firm, costs agency, or similar organisation.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- A genuine interest in developing a career as a Costs Lawyer.
- Ability to manage workloads effectively and work collaboratively within a team.
Desirable:
- Experience assisting with bills of costs, costs budgeting, or detailed assessments.
- Currently undertaking, or willing to undertake, the Costs Lawyer Qualification Course.
- Knowledge of CPR, Costs Practice Direction, and costs-related procedures.
