A leading UK-wide law firm is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Costs Lawyer / Senior Law Costs Draftsperson to join its growing specialist Costs team. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior costs professional to play a key role within a forward-thinking department handling complex, high-value costs matters. As the team continues to grow, this position offers the chance to take ownership of a varied caseload, support junior colleagues, and contribute to the ongoing development of a market-leading in-house costs function.
The Role:
- Drafting and managing high-value Bills of Costs
- Preparing and reviewing Costs Budgets
- Drafting Points of Dispute and Replies
- Conducting costs negotiations and settlement discussions
- Attending Detailed Assessment Hearings and CCMCs where required
- Providing strategic costs advice to fee earners and legal teams
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the Costs team
- Contributing to process improvements and the development of efficient ways of working
- Supporting the use of technology and innovation within the department
The Ideal Candidate:
- Significant experience working as a Costs Lawyer or Senior Law Costs Draftsperson
- Strong technical knowledge of costs law and procedure
- Experience handling complex costs matters, ideally across areas such as personal injury, clinical negligence, group litigation, or commercial disputes
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to advise internal stakeholders effectively
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues
- Confidence managing a complex caseload independently
