Douglas Scott are proud to be working in partnership with a progressive and ambitious law firm seeking to appoint a Head of Conveyancing / Head of Legal Practice (COLP) to play a key role in the future growth of the business. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Residential Property Lawyer to step into a genuine leadership position, taking ownership of an established conveyancing department whilst helping to drive strategy, compliance, operational excellence and long-term growth.
With significant investment already committed to the department and the full backing of senior leadership, this role offers the opportunity to make a real impact and leave your mark on a growing legal practice.
The Opportunity
This is far more than a traditional conveyancing role. The successful candidate will lead the Residential Property department, oversee compliance as COLP and work closely with the Directors to support the next phase of the firm's development. You will have genuine influence over the future direction of the department, helping to shape culture, develop people, improve systems and drive performance across the team. For the right individual, this represents a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise, leadership responsibility and strategic input within a forward-thinking legal business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Residential Conveyancing department.
- Act as Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP).
- Supervise and develop Conveyancing Solicitors, Licensed Conveyancers, Legal Executives, Fee Earners and support staff.
- Drive departmental growth, profitability and performance.
- Recruit, mentor and develop high-performing team members.
- Improve operational processes, systems and efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with SRA regulations, AML requirements and best practice standards.
- Work closely with senior management to support strategic growth plans.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with introducers and referral partners.
- Promote a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture.

- 5+ Years PQE (preferred)
- Significant experience handling Residential Property matters from instruction through to completion.
- Previous leadership, management or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of residential conveyancing and property law.
- Excellent organisational and people management skills.
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business growth.
- An interest in regulatory compliance and risk management.
- Previous COLP experience is advantageous but not essential.
