A well-established and highly regarded legal practice is looking to recruit an experienced Costs Lawyer or Costs Draftsman to join its litigation team in its Leeds office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in legal costs who is looking for a role within a busy and established litigation environment.

The Role

  • Preparing and drafting Schedules of Costs, Points of Dispute and Replies
  • Preparing Precedent H budgets and dealing with costs budgeting
  • Advising fee earners and clients on costs strategy and recovery
  • Preparing costs claims and dealing with detailed assessments
  • Drafting and reviewing costs-related correspondence and documentation
  • Assisting with negotiations and costs disputes
  • Working alongside solicitors and fee earners on costs issues arising from litigation
  • Managing your own caseload and meeting relevant deadlines

About You

  • Someone with a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience working in legal costs.
  • A qualified Costs Lawyer would be preferred, but applications from experienced Costs Draftsmen/Draftspersons will also be very welcome.
  • You will ideally have:
    • At least 3 years' experience in legal costs
    • Strong drafting and analytical skills
    • Experience working within a litigation environment
    • A good understanding of costs budgeting, detailed assessment and costs recovery
    • The ability to manage your own caseload and work to deadlines
    • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work closely with solicitors and clients

Location & Working Pattern

The role is based in Leeds. The preference is for someone who is able to attend the Leeds office around once a week, although there is flexibility for the right candidate. We would also consider someone who is only able to attend the office occasionally, a few times per month.

Salary & Benefits

£40,000 – £55,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Costs Lawyer or Costs Draftsman to join a well-established litigation practice, with a flexible approach to office attendance and genuine scope to develop within the role.
