A leading international law firm is seeking an Associate to join their highly regarded Marine team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of marine insurance claims and shipping disputes, contributing to a team known for its excellence and expertise in this sector.
The Role
As a Marine Associate, you will handle and assist with:
- Marine insurance claims, including hull, war, marine liability, cargo, mortgagee’s interest insurance, marine cyber, and yachts.
- Wet and dry shipping matters.
- Policy drafting.
- Arbitration (particularly under LMAA terms) and litigation.
Language skills are advantageous but not essential, and the role may require occasional overseas travel.
The Marine team advises domestic and international clients on a comprehensive range of marine insurance, wet and dry shipping, and trade issues. The team’s clients include:
- Insurers (domestic and international).
- Shipowners, charterers, and freight forwarders.
- Ports and terminal operators.
- Commodity marine service providers.
You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of cases, including:
- Disputes across all classes of marine insurance (coverage, defense, and subrogation).
- Drafting insurance policies and commercial contracts.
- Handling wet and dry shipping disputes.
The Ideal Candidate
- A UK-qualified solicitor or CILEX qualified with 1-6 years’ PQE in marine and shipping law.
- Familiarity with arbitration and court procedures.
- Proven experience gained at a recognized shipping law firm.
- Previous client contact and participation in business development activities.
