A leading US law firm is expanding its London data, cyber and technology risk practice and is seeking a senior associate to join a highly integrated, transatlantic team. This role sits at the intersection of data protection, cyber risk, regulatory strategy and technology-led commercial work. You will advise sophisticated, often US-connected clients on how to operate, innovate and respond safely in complex digital environments — from day-to-day compliance and product strategy through to high-stakes cyber incidents and investigations.
The practice is deliberately non-commoditised. Lawyers are brought in as strategic advisers, trusted by boards, founders and in-house leaders to manage legal risk where the pace of innovation frequently outstrips regulation.
What you’ll do
- Advising on UK and EU data protection compliance, governance frameworks and cross-border data strategy
- Supporting clients on cybersecurity incidents and data breaches, including regulatory engagement and incident response coordination
- Guiding businesses on risk mitigation for digital products, online platforms, SaaS and cloud-based services
- Advising on consumer, online safety and regulatory considerations affecting technology-led businesses
- Supporting technology-heavy corporate and commercial transactions, including licensing, outsourcing and M&A
- Engaging directly with regulators, insurers, forensic providers and external stakeholders where required
- Helping clients design and implement global privacy, security and compliance programmes
- Contributing to internal best-practice frameworks, playbooks and thought leadership across jurisdictions
This is a genuinely blended role: advisory and strategic at its core, with contentious, investigative and incident-led work forming an important — but not exclusive — part of the practice.
What you’ll need
- UK-qualified solicitor or US-qualified lawyer with meaningful UK / EU data protection experience
- Strong background across data protection, privacy advisory and cyber risk, ideally within a recognised TMT or data practice
- Exposure to incident response and regulatory engagement, including GDPR / UK GDPR matters
- Comfort operating across commercial, regulatory and contentious contexts
- Experience advising technology-led or digital businesses
- Ability to communicate confidently with senior stakeholders under pressure
- Litigation, investigations or disputes experience is advantageous but not mandatory
- Privacy certifications (e.g. CIPP) beneficial but not essential
