We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to lead and embed a proactive safety culture across our organisation. Reporting into the Director of HR & Support Services, you’ll play a key role in ensuring we maintain a safe, compliant and supportive environment for staff, patients, volunteers and visitors.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring health, safety and environmental strategies, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice. You will act as the lead specialist for all Health & Safety matters, providing expert advice and guidance to managers and teams across the organisation.
This role requires a confident leader who can influence at all levels, drive continuous improvement, and take ownership of organisational compliance, sustainability, and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and promote a positive, proactive Health, Safety and Environmental culture across the organisation
- Act as the organisation’s lead and responsible person for Health & Safety compliance
- Ensure compliance with current legislation, approved codes of practice and best practice guidance
- Provide expert advice and support on risk assessments, safe systems of work and incident prevention
- Investigate incidents, ensuring appropriate reporting and organisational learning
- Develop and deliver training programmes in Health, Safety and Fire Safety
- Lead audit and inspection programmes to monitor compliance and drive improvements
- Oversee sustainability, environmental and energy strategies, working with relevant stakeholders
- Produce reports for senior leadership and Board-level review
- Chair Health, Safety & Environmental and Fire Marshal meetings
- Manage estates-related budgets, contracts, and insurance arrangements
- Support capital projects and ensure Health & Safety considerations are embedded throughout
- Maintain asset registers and ensure compliance with statutory requirements
About You
You’ll be someone who takes pride in creating a safe, compliant and positive working environment, with the confidence to lead on Health, Safety and Environmental matters across an organisation. You’ll have experience in a similar role, along with a recognised Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH, and a solid understanding of current legislation. You’ll be comfortable supporting managers and teams, helping them manage risks and put practical, effective solutions in place.
You’ll also bring:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
- A proactive approach, with the confidence to identify risks and drive improvements
- Experience of incident investigation, reporting and promoting organisational learning
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions
- Excellent organisation and time management, with the ability to prioritise effectively
- A high level of attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining standards
You’ll be a team player who can work collaboratively across departments, while also being confident working independently and taking the lead when needed.
