An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Council’s Digital & Information Team. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with different technologies and varied business requirements. The main duties of the role will be to assist the Head of Digital & Information to ensure the Service meets the needs of the Council and is delivered as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Effective communication and problem‑solving skills as well as the ability to work under pressure is required. Candidates should have experience in a similar role and a Degree in IT, Computer Studies or a related field.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  1. Experience in a similar role.
  2. Degree in IT, Computer Studies or a related field.
  3. Strong problem solving, critical thinking, communication and analysis skills.
  4. Experience of:
    • Design, configuration, maintenance, installation and support of Virtual Servers/operating systems
    • Networking, Switches
    • Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, Telephone systems, PC/Laptop operating systems/associated equipment
  5. Providing system and cyber security functions, firewalls and safely managing access and data security.
  6. Experience in design, configuration, maintenance, installation, and support of Web systems liaising with hosting organisations as appropriate.
  7. Experience of the following technologies and systems:
    • VMware
    • MS windows servers, MS SQL server
    • Microsoft365 environments and administration
    • IP Telephone systems
    • Mobile device management
    • Windows11
    • Document management systems and software as service solutions.
  8. Experience of:
    • Procurement of computer technology systems, Service Level Agreements and payment profiles, Platform/Server Migrations, Cloud Services.
    • Dealing with suppliers and obtaining advice and support.
    • Project managing implementation of infrastructure systems including testing, documentation and acceptance.
    • Training and passing on skills to assistant staff
    • Understanding corporate and departmental requirements ensuring systems can be set up to underpin services.
    • Working to D&I standards.
    • Working and providing deliverables to agreed targets.
    • Understanding Contingency, Audit, Change Control and Security requirements.
  9. Previous experience of working on a help desk, experience in dealing with customer enquiries, call handling, use of office equipment and an understanding of problem management and resolution.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively, formally and informally, with Councillors, colleagues, subordinates and customers. A good appreciation of the wider role of D&I and how it fits into the organisation.
  11. Organised and self‑motivated with the ability to work under pressure with ability to absorb new technical information rapidly and apply it effectively. Initiative to keep skills up to date.
  12. Ability to display leadership qualities and work well as part of a team or on own initiative within corporate objectives.
  13. Flexible approach to work and collaboration with team members.
  14. Ability to think logically and creatively to resolve digital problems.
  15. Full/clean valid driving licence.

Desirable

  1. Relevant technical qualifications.
  2. Knowledge of CCTV Infrastructure and network design, policy and solution delivery.
  3. Knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018 and Freedom of Information Act 2015.
  4. Experience of local Government.
  5. Political sensitivity.
